2 Hot new vids outta the NYC

sI'm heading over to NYC this week so thought i'd celebrate this (and probly make this my last blog post till i'm back) by posting up a couple videos I've enjoyed today.
The 1st one's from the uncle you wished was yours, Uncle Murdah. Hopefully dude will have a succesful career after being dropped by Def Jam and goes hard over Jay-Z's anthem of 2009. Murda's got mad passion and you can tell he ain't fresh outta acting class.

The next vid's from Jay-Z and Fabolous. I personally like this track think it's got mad character and content and brings that NYC sound hard! This one's off Loso's Way, the new album from the F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S.

New Bashy Video!

Check this new video from Bashy and Estelle's Sister, H Boogie (similar enough to Lauryn Hill, who's moniker is L Boogie!). I like the whole retro feel of this vid, reminds me of that Snoop throw back Sensual Seduction!

A-Stout - Drinks

See Semtex's blog entry about A-Stout here

Urban music is in trouble. Its protagonists are not responding to the popular call for pure hip hop music. An international task force is stepping in to take over the radio waves. The rescue operation begins this summer.

"I used to love hip hop but I don't listen to the radio anymore. I don't even listen to music anymore. We need help." Immanuel, age 25, London.

As a response to this growing concern, A-Stout, a musical adventure of international proportions that deliver consistently high quality hip hop, has arrived. The multi-national task force is made up of Rootwords (Zambia/USA), LarynX (Ghana) and VLM (Mexico) and was formed in Geneva, Switzerland in 2000.

A-Stout are no strangers to recording, having released several mixtapes and toured extensively throughout Europe. They have worked with artists as far reaching as Common and Jay Sean, and the time has now come to release their debut single 'Drinks', as the first offensive towards urban liberation. Through a hybrid of both conventional and guerrilla tactics, A-Stout hope to lead several more offensives before releasing their debut album by year end.

A-Stout bring hip hop to its purest form and elevate people through meaningful lyrics and thought-inspiring references. To date, A-Stout have released five tracks digitally arming the masses with weapons of their own so they too can spread the message and help the resistance.

A-Stout are signed to London based Acuphen Entertainment.

Giggs: the guy I love to hate

Giggs is the type of rapper that doesn't come around too often, but this isn't a Giggs apprecation thread. Don't get me wrong I used to be a certified 'Giggs hater clan' member, considering him nothing much more than a fly by night rapper but when the pressure's on he performs. See 'Zip it up' with Wiley, 'Look out', his collabo with Skepta and has now a genuine chance of reaching the mainstream with his new one Slow Songs being requested on track by Mike 'The Streets" Skinner. Seems as tho this was a win-win operation for the 2 of em. The video's doin a lot, havva look:

But when he comes with vids like this on RasKwame's new interview/freestyle video series i feel as tho the guy needs some video coaching skills if he's really to blow.

Cash Money rapper Brisco Robbed At Gun Point

Armed men stormed a Miami barbershop last week, pistol-whipping rapper Brisco and stealing jewelry and his Range Rover.
Police are searching for four men who stormed the Player's Choice Barbershop at 6301 NW Sixth Ave. on July 29.
Brisco had left a photo shoot and arrived at the shop before 1 p.m. One man walked into the store, pretending to be a customer.
The man spoke on his cellphone, telling whomever was on the line it was OK to come in. Then three men, armed with handguns, entered the shop and told the customers to keep their heads down.
The men demanded Brisco's car keys. Check the vid below:

Brisco doesnt waste time and has already made a track against the suckers who did this:

Hold the line Megamixes!

Check out the site Shakkerhart.com over in Germany who cover grime, hip hop, electro and gabba (?!). You may have heard the track 'Hold the line' by Major Lazer with Santigold and Lexx which is definitly one of the anthems of 2009. Shakkerhart have already done the Megamix of the best Hold The Line Remixes which for them just wasnt enough so they just felt like putting them all on a bootleg compilation. 61 Remixes, B-Sides and mixes off Major Lazer’s “Gun’s Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do”. Click the image below to hear the (very) megamix, but make sure you hear the original 1st!

SB.TV catches up with Ghetts

This guy's got as much charisma as he does skills on the mic. This is good to see in a scene where a lot of personalitys are too cool for school (and for the cameraman). Look out for Ghetts' reaction at 1.08 when he sees something he likes. The J2K "friendly send" is funny also...

House of Grime Interview with M.I.K

Frankstah over at ' House of Grime' (check my 'Allies' section) chatted to the man of the moment M.I.K about various subjects :

http://ogfrankstah.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/i-caught-up-with-mik/

Noted by many as the grime scene’s hardest working MC, I caught up with South East London Resident M.I.K to talk about his promo’s, future projects and GrimeForum.

Me: Thanks for taking time out, hows things going ?

MIK: I’m all good just living life really.

Me: Good..so you’ve just released ‘Workaholic’ your CD, for those who ain’t listened yet, describe it for us.

MIK: 21 tracks of hard hitting grime for the real grime fans none of that watered down crap that floating about at the moment.

Me: Producer wise what can we expect ?

MIK: Beat creatures, swizze star, zdot, jbeatz, crazee bandit, lowko, vd, smurf, tham and deverlish.

Me: A nice mix up, so whats next for you ?

MIK: Well I just put out the mixtape so I’m just pushin dat at the moment then after I’ve felt I’ve dun enough with it I’m guna work on a single for my next mixtape ‘Grime to five’ which should be out sum time next year if not sooner.

Me: I see. I guess it’s hard to argue with your work rate, you’ve done a lot of promo, how many promos have you done and what’s the latest one ?

MIK: Well I’ve done 13 promos since last year June not to mention the I love pirate radio series and just before the mixtape landed I dropped the 10 minute tea break ep. So yeah alot of ground work.

Me: The I love pirate series was quite unique in it’s own right, in a non-obvious way what inspired you to do that ?

MIK: I just happened to be on my pc one day listening to a couple of my radio rips and thinkin to myself I’ve done alot of radio work that people may not have heard so I just made a little ting outta most of the rips I had stored on the hard drive.

Me: Interesting..you mentioned earlier the whole “watered down thing”, overall how do you see the scene at the moment ?

MIK: It’s just mad at the moment ‘cos there really ain’t a market for the hard grime as there was before, so alot of mc’s are jumpin the funky and hip hop wagon which I can understand in a way ‘cos as an artist you need to spread your word whether it’s in grime or not.

Me: Is that hinting towards a direction you maybe going ?

MIK: Nah not at the moment but I’m not sayin I wouldn’t go in that direction ever ‘cos you never know really music is music at the end of the day.

Me: And of course a big part of music these days in particular grime is the Internet, and you can be found on Grimeforum, is the forum a help or a hindrance to your progression as an artist ?

MIK: Yeah for sure it has helped ‘cos alot people hadn’t heard of me,. before then my stuff was gettin posted on there.

Me: And no secret to anyone your name recently has been embroiled in several lyrical spats, with Lee Brasco being a point. How did this all come about ?

MIK: Basically, I checked my myspace one day and saw a message from Lee saying man are sayin I sent for you. So I’m confused didn’t know what he was on about, so I messaged him back sayin I dunno what your on about, so I jumped on my facebook straight after, I see a message from kast sayin suttin like sounds like he’s biting ur flow with a link 2 a video. I check the video I’ve seen it’s brasco I’ve listened 2 the tune thinkin I cant hear nuffin.

I got half way through and I’m hearin Ergh dis ergh dat in da same way that I say it no different so I’ve clocked what his message was about on myspace so I message him back sayin fella I’ve just heard the tune I don’t know if your sendin for me or what but you’ve fully catted the way I say ergh so he message me back sayin hes never heard of me until that day which is a lie cos he heard me on westwood last year December with Spitter, fact, but yeah that’s all dead now init.

Me: And what’s the score with Kozzie ? You’ve fired shots that way as well. That seems a more personal thing ?

MIK: He called my name on radio, I sent for him simple.

Me: Right..on a more positive vibe, which MC’s/producers are doing well for you at the moment ?

MIK: Wiley, Chipmunk, Stryder, Skepta, Bashy. But more on a under ground note I’d say, Producers: swizzee, beat ceatures, Wiley, Silencer and one guy im workin with on my new mixtape called Relentless from bedford, gotta nice sound. MC’s there’s merky of course when I see what he’s doin it reminds me of when I was cummin up. Ermm ego some demon style mc serious bars and TKO fully sick I fully rate him at the mo.

Me: What inspired you to make music and what makes you carry on ?

MIK: People like heartless crew, so solid, pay as you go, essentials, wiley they made me do this grime ting and the fact that it’s part of my lifestyle makes me wanna do it even more, to reach new heights.

Me: Ok well that’s a wrap for now, any last shoutouts ?

MIK: Shouts to myself for staying strong through all lifes struggles, blunt, all the djs dat have helped me, producers that send me stuff ona regs and urself for this interview, oh yeah, and grime !

Hungry? You will be...

Some people like to watch a TV show called Come Dine With Me. Turns out that London bass DJ Manara loves it more than most. She was joined by her housemate and fellow DJ, Bok-Bok, as well as UK funky MC/producer/singer Donae'o, the jewel in the UK Dancehall scene's crown; Warrior Queen and L-Vis 1990 who promotes London's livest, no holds barred monthly bass party Night Slugs. They come together to yam down Manara's lasagne and it's narrated by grime scene's super-hero Jammer who seems to have his fun-poking stick sharpened and ready to slewwwwwww deeeeeeeem.
