Audio/download: StayFresh - W.T.F Mix CD

W.T.F. features a number of previously unreleased gems, some of Stay Fresh's most viewed tracks and serves as a good introduction to the West Midlands group and also features a number of individual tracks, which will allow you to get to know the team better!

Video: Sway Feat. Ed Drewett - Song For The City

Conveniently released just a month before the Olympic games hits London, Sway drops this patriotic anthem with Ed Drewett, who drops a mediocre chorus which should help attract it to the pop outlets. However Sway's lyrics are nothing short of touching and are packed full of meaningful content and references to the extraordinary diversity of the city. Big up to Sway once again!

Review/Audio: Chemo Presents… My Mate Does Beats

Our main man Suave Debonair drops this review of the brand new release from UK hip hop's "don" level producer and engineer Chemo.

If you don’t already know about the beat making geniuses that reside on our piss drenched island then this fine collection of gurgling synths, trickling hats and hard knocking kicks will wake you up to some truly extraordinary talent. I’ve been lucky enough to work with a few of the beat makers from this distinguished list and know they are truly dedicated to their cause. The at times unsung heroes of the UK Hip Hop scene, these dudes are the Doc Brown to our Marty McFly - and without them there would be no metaphorical hover board, which would be bad news - TRUST. With the competition of beat battles occurring more often now, these anoraks of the breaks are only getting better at their craft and it would not surprise me in the least if some of the names on Chemos collection go on to produce tracks for some of the music worlds head honchos...

Kicking off this showcase is Pete Cannon followed by Naive, who in my slightly bias opinion are two of the best most diverse producers to appear in the last 5 years. ‘Feathers’ by Bambooman made me feel a bit like a 2p spiralling down into one of those charity boxes you get at supermarkets, and Kosyne’s ‘Everals Remedy’ had me dying to hear a verse from Common blessing it. Jon Phonics ‘Digital bath’ had me chillin till my fingers and toes went mad wrinkly, then Sivey brings bangin melodies with ‘Boss’.

We gotta wait til track 16 for the man himself Chemo to make an appearance with ‘Filaments’, a break ridden rumpus of epic proportion shortly followed by one time Brightoner (now London based producer) 184 - who brings things to a close with the deliciously dubby ‘Louder’. To be fair every beat on this collection is more than worth your time, and goes to show just how exciting things are about to get in this scene.. Is it time for Ronson, Timbaland and Will.I.Am to make way for the new crowd? Listen and make up your own mind!

Video: Maxsta - I Wanna Rock

Following on from our review of the track a few days back, here's the hashtag rich video for Maxsta's step out of the underground, with the beat from Show N Prove (the guy behind Benny Banks' recent hit 'Bada Boom Bada Bing' plus COUNTLESS more UK hip hop bangers).

What Would Wiley Do? #WWWD

Vice Magazine's music channel Noisey will be premiering a new YouTube show featuring Wiley, as their very own travelling agony uncle! In 'What Would Wiley Do?' the man himself will be dispensing words of advice to the public via the opening hatch of a specially customised ice cream van (above!).

Whether it's the meaning of life or where stars come from or the Olympics, what to study in college, gambling, bee-keeping, how much to tip strippers...WHATEVER it is, don't spend hours beating your sore forehead against the table and shouting at the mirror. Simply ask: What Would Wiley Do?

You can put forward any questions you would like to ask Wiley using the hashtag #WWWD on Twitter or by sending response videos on YouTube. You can also ask Wiley in person by following his whereabouts on Twitter on his travels around London in his specially designed ice cream van. So, if you're lucky or just happened to be in the area you can ask him your question in person..

In related news, the man just dropped step 12 of his 'It's all fun and games till..' series, with this one produced by Infamous... take a listen below!

Sponsored Video: Benga Documentary - Gatwick Express Tracks

It's always great to see a mainstream brand get involved in a culture which is not traditionally considered within it's immediate scope, which is exactly what Gatwick Express have done here. Dubstep don Benga, who has also been behind some grime bangers such as Lethal B/Firecamp's rowdy 'Shut Up', takes us on his musical journey from Victoria to Gatwick.

He has created one of the 'express tracks' which is a 30 minute musical journey, given to you for free when booking a ticket online (quite a novel idea!). Benga had this to say "I try to sit there and think about the ups and downs, and the delays that I used were all about trying to make it feel like a journey. Thirty two minutes, and it’s like an adventure, do you know what I mean?"

Here's a trailer for the Gatwick Tracks series, which features clips of the other tracks, from classical bloke Philip Sheppard and Essex band The Milk.

For website technology geeks, it's definitely worth checking out The Gatwick Express website that uses a cool new type of javascript known as 'Scroll path'. It navigates the journey from an overheard perspective, giving you snippets of the three artists' tracks and maps out the towns that are passed on the way down to the airport! See below for an example...

Video: Rude Kid - Get Busy ft. Skepta

The certified grime producer who's worked with more or less everyone in the scene, drops this massive debut video after years of putting out bangers in the underground... You can hear the more 90s club vibe to this one compared to his sci-fi/digital sounding beats he normally puts out but it's great to see the progression! Grab this on iTunes.

Audio: Maxsta – I Wanna Rock [review]

Our new writer, the anonymous grime MC who writes under the alias of 'Jez Cool' drops this review of Maxsta's new joint which is due for release August 5!

I remember MCing alongside Maxsta at pirate stations like Axe FM and Rinse FM a long time ago, and he is now the first artist signed to Jamal 'SBTV' Edwards’ 'Just Jam' roster (part of RCA Records). On 'I wanna rock' he has produced a perfectly valid attempt to unite the listeners, both in the UK with the bars, and Stateside with the production.

As I was listening I could genuinely picture myself in the corner of a club with a few pals, raising my glass of liquor and ice pulling the same sort of cocky face he was probably pulling in the booth while putting the lyrics down. In fact, it is that cockiness, that oozes out of the track that makes it so engaging for me. I can’t imagine it will go down too well with many of his contemporaries, but who cares?!

More than enough people listen to music to experience escapism for it not to matter, and furthermore he’s not here to please his fellow spitters. So have that.

Check the behind the scenes footage of the video which is dropping soon!

Video: Frisco mixtape launch party - Jammer, D Double E, Footsie, Blacks, Chronik, Mighty Mo, D Power, Lay Z

I headed down to this heavyweight line up last night, at the Queen of Hoxton in East London, as the "who's who" of the hardest underground grime came down to support Boy Better Know's Frisco as he releases 'Back 2 da Lab vol. 4' which is out on iTunes now...

It was also a rare sight to see Heartless Crew's Mighty Moe, and the veteran garage MC is unsurprisingly always well received at grime spots! Another highlight of the show was the live band, who backed Fris as he revealed his mixtape tracks, which included an on stage collab with Ruff Ryders UK affiliate Naila Boss, Roll Deep's J2K and more.

Props to DJ Complex, Logan Sama and DJ Maximum on the decks, who made it what it was for the MCs to murk it!!

Shoutout to Lordie from the Grime Report, who was down there and caught this footage-

Sponsored video: Carling Zest - Jaguar Skills' Summer Bottled - Summer SFX Riddim

Carling have commissioned three top DJs to create their own tracks, using the theme of summer as a base to create the music! Who better to commision to create something like this than D&B/hip hop mixologist Jaguar Skills, who has been steadily building his reputation since 2002 for his "eclectic multi-genre, cut-n-paste style DJing mixes".

If you ever listen to Radio 1/1xtra then there's a good chance you've heard him at work - but now he's created something truely unique for Carling, who are promoting their new lime infused 'Zest' beer, for the summer.

If you like what you see, head over to the Carling Zest Youtube app to check out more creations like this - by fellow creative turntablists DJ Yoda and DJ Food. Video: M.I.K - Mor£

Brand new video from the hardworking grime MC who you could say is only recently getting the recognition he deserves. We've been pushing his music over three years on Blatantly Blunt, including releasing his debut mixtape 'Workaholic', and getting the name out via the site and Youtube channel.

The SE London MC makes his solo SBTV debut video - dropping the video for his infectious new single produced by Faze Miyake; easily one of the top producers in grime at the minute.

The single is out now on iTunes or bandcamp  via Launch Pad records who have releases with the likes of Wiley, Tre Mission, Dexplicit & Manga. Included in the single package comes a remix from fellow Grime collective, Family Tree consisting of Merky Ace, Ego, TKO, and Shifman as well as a remix by BBC Radio 1xtra’s DJ Q.

Check this old freestyle video I caught with him, back in 2009. Don't watch the the camera's mic level, it wasn't the best so you may have to turn your volume up! But it's definitely worth the watch as he flows on point thru a classic Wiley instrumental!!

Video: Champion - Crystal Meth

One of the most promising producers in the UK underground bass scene is 'Champion', who follows the success of the instant classic, 'Lighter', with this video for 'Crystal Meth', via grime label Butterz. It features footage from the last Butterz x Hardrive event at Cable in March.

Check out the video for Champion's 'Crystal Meth' which is out on 25th June and the 'Crystal Meth' launch party takes place at YOYO on 28th June at Notting Hill Arts Club.

Don't forget the next Butterz x Hardrive touches down at Cable on 7th July! Grab yourself a ticket here.

Video: Mercston ft Siah Spyderman & Jaze Aliga - Tsunami

The veteran Bow E3 grime MC gets on a reggae cross over tip, with the video seemingly filmed in Jamaica - big track, and visually rich video!

Audio: Wiley - Drop It Again (Prod by Bless Beats)

Wiley seems to be in "on fire" mode recently and is dropping a huge amount of music and long time collaborator Bless Beats provides the production on a bouncy mid 90s Timbaland/Mannie Fresh reminiscent hip hop flavoured beat for Will to tell the tale of his late night antics, in a couple of accents which works well on this example - possible radio/club hit?

Video: KOG Worldwide interview with Danny Brown

Detroit rapper Danny Brown is one of the my favourite at the moment both for his music and approach he takes to his interviews. He recently sat down with Verena from UK channel K.O.G. TV for this dope two-part interview in Barcelona. Danny reveals a bag of info about his life plus his love for grime! Watch how Danny's leg shakes vigorously when he's talking about his girls tho!
