Video: T-Pain - 5 O'Clock ft. Wiz Khalifa and Lily Allen

Not expecting all my readers to appreciate this track but the fact that a) it's a great track and b) Lilly Allen and T Pain are collaborating makes this something you can't dismiss! Her English accent and gentle singing compliment's T Pain's creative and bubbly melodies so well, and the beat carries everything well.

Wiz Khalifa's verse at the end definitely add's the icing to the already scrumptious cake, and T-Pain's forthcoming 'Evolver' album is one more to add to the waiting list!

Brian Bradley - THE X FACTOR USA Audition "bigger than Jay-Z & Kanye West"

I'm not one to post X Factor content but this kid's a 14 year old rapper straight outta Brooklyn, New York. Brownsville to be specific, which is the same parts as M.O.P - so you know he ain't messing.

Not only can the kid rap incredibly well for his age, but with a stage presence and confidence like he does this kid can go far in the hip hop game! Wouldn't be surprised if he was the next signing to Jay-Z's ROC Nation conglomerate.

Video: D.S.T - Let it Go

Big track here from the upcoming UK rapper and producer. Great beat selection in picking this Araab Muzik instrumental and some passionate bars with intense delivery...

Audio: Jeezy - F.A.M.E. feat. T.I.

As if the suspense hadn't built enough for TM 103 Hustlerz Ambition, Jeezy's long awated LP, he drops this; with T.I. which is the first track we've heard Tip on since he ended his spell at the halfway house yesterday.

J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League produced this single and as usual from this team of beatmakers, it's brilliant. The vocal sample is so minimal and leaves you wanting to hear her voice some more! All round big track and Jeezy is sounding as strong as he when he dropped his debut solo album.

Jeezy - F.A.M.E. feat. T.I.

Audio: Badness & Ghetts - System

This is the first track track these two have made together for a long while and is the first to be released from a forthcoming collaborative album between Ghetts & Badness - the potential  of this could be catastrophic for the grime scene! Certainly two of some of the most consistent artists in grime (and UK music in general).

System vocal by A WE SHELL DOWN BOWZER

Audio: Bashy & Gappy Ranks - World Lock

Something a little different here, as Bashy returns this week with a touch of his Jamaican roots on this bashment influenced track. He has linked up with Britain's biggest dancehall artist Gappy Ranks to make this a feel good zoners.

Audio: Juicy J - Who Da Neighbors Remix ft. Snoop Dogg

The great thing about Three 6 Mafia (Juicy J, DJ Paul, Project Pat etc) is that when they drop a banger like this, it's bound to pop off. There are too many quotables from Juicy in this, as he rhymes about his fat wallet and stardom (from nothing) by describing who his neighbours are, rather than the usual subjects on most MCs lips.

Snoop's jumped on the remix but from time I heard the original, I knew this was a hood banger! Expecting parodies to be made of this!

Juicy J - Who Da Neighbors Remix ft. Snoop Dogg

Video: hip hop paparazzi catches T.I. walk free from halfway house!

After bouncing between prison and the halfway house, T.I. finally walked out this morning as a free man and TMZ was there to catch the moment. This time, instead of calling in for a big tour bus that got him in trouble after his last release, he casually walked out and entered an SUV, which quickly drove him away.

Video: Jay Rock - M.O.N.E.Y

New video from one of the more under rated US rappers right now - speaking on a subject that's relevant to everyone above the age of 10 years old! The song appears on Jay's now available debut cd Follow Me Home, which is DEFINITELY worth the listen.

Video: Organised Mess - Grawler

Rating this new one from UKHH boys Organised Mess. Their "Good For Nothin EP" features Corkhill, Jester Jacobs, Fourny P, Mnsr Frites, Luca Brazi, Archetype and Bibs Qunitero.

Download: Roachee - Roach Material [mixtape]

Without a doubt this is one of my favourite grime mixtapes of 2011 and has that real raw, uncut sound for which grime has gained it's reputation. Vocalling a load of crazy beats Roachee takes you on a lyrical journey - providing a snap shot of his inner thoughts and day-to-day life.

The mixtape contains features from most of Ruff Sqwad as well as Rival and Stutta. The highlight is 'Sith Lord' which is a vocal of a dubsteppy grime remix of 'Prodigy - Breathe' by 'Numbernin6' . Check the video for that below.

Video: Gonzo Challenge with Ghetts, JME, Roxxxan, Vis

Video: StooShe - Betty Woz Gone (Official Lyric Video)

Something as cool and original as the blue Doritos pack here - as the all female group sing and rap their tales of life growing up. Check their free mixtape on their facebook page here.

Video: Naive Machine - Robot Ramification

Dope piece of instrumental glitchy hip hop here from a UK hip-hop producer who's steadily moving up the ranks. The beat reminds me of some Stones Throw/Foreign Beggars combo - Great video also - look out for cameos from Jam Baxter, Pete Cannon and more!

Mobb Deep - The Black Cocaine EP [Cover Art]

November 25 can't come soon enough for Mobb Deep fans. That's the day the most infamous duo of Prodigyand Havoc, will be dropping their highly anticipated Black Cocaine EP.

Havoc, The Alchemist, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, and Young Free will handle production duties for the project, which will feature seven or eight songs.

Video: RapperTagUK #1 Mystro

Mighty Mystro drops the first episode in a new series from Hoochinoo and DFacer, which basically involves an online hip hop cypher, with each MC passing on the torch to the next! Next up is a legendary member of the scene Ramson Badbones, so watch this space for more!

Here's an interview I did with the man himself, about a year ago.

Audio: Stinkahbell on MistaJam show [1xtra]

Stinkahbell, the dubstep duo who consist of UK hip hop legendary producer Nutty P and his counterpart Janset (who's worked with Nutty a lot, both vocally and musically in the past) made it onto the highly respected Mistajam show on 1xtra - which is definitely worth the listen to hear what's hot across the 'bass music' scene and more.

Here's an interview I did with Nutty at his studio, in August 2010, and below that - he breaks down how he built Stinkahbell's official remix to Woman's World by Selah, Sadie Ama and Mz Bratt..

Audio: Chima Anya - Full Attention

The Oxford originating rapper, who's now a full time doctor and undeground UK hip hop artist, is someone we've been supporting for a long while now. He's just droped this - his vocal of the Royal T remix of Full Attention by legendary grime producer Terror Danjah.

Chima Anya - Full Attention by Chima Anya

This is a video interview with the man himself we carried out a little while back in a tunnel somewhere near Waterloo Station! Listen out for the flute busker providing the soundtrack!

Audio: Dream Mclean - THE ONLY WAY IS ESSEX ft. Bandit Blacks

This might just turn out to be an anthem for the mandem out in Essex, with a small but concentrated scene, led by one of the best 'new'/not fully exposed MCs in the UK, Dream Mclean.

For those of you outside the UK (or not into popular culture) there's a show called The Only Way Is Essex, kinda like Jersey Shore (I'm assuming) and is really popular, tho this song is more taking the title and not necessarily bigging up the show.

Audio: J Beatz - 8 bar mucktion feat TWELVE MCs

If there was any bigger way of dropping your debut single, "8 Bar Mucktion" is IT. J Beatz, who already has a strong catalogue is due to drop easily the biggest 8 bar tune since Pow 2011 - the Pulse Tazer Vocal remix, more affectionately known as '8 Bar Mucktion' .

It features (take a deep breath) 9 Milli Major, Big H, Kwam , Big Narstie, Sharky Major, Blay, M.I.K, Typah, Dimples, Jammin, Rival and Canadian grime star Tre Mission.... The track was premiered on Logan Sama's Kiss show on monday night - brace yourself.

Who do you think had the best 8 bar?

One of the hottest grime tracks of the year has got an incredible looking video. Take a look below, to grab a 'sneaky' peak before the full length one drops. The single's out October 23.

I grabbed some footage of the three of them performing this live, take a look!

Audio/download: Maino Ft Lil Wayne – Im About Cream

Just as you thought you'd never hear another Maino record, he comes with this piece of fire - and there's a dope verse from Weezy chucked in also. Pretty sure the hook is Rick Ross, not 100% sure tho!

Video: Samson AKA Black The Ripper - Do It Like Me

New banger from one of the countries best rappers, who's mastered both the hip hop and grime sound. This is big.

This is a his first live performance of the track I filmed back in April

24 September 2011

Video: Triple S (ft MC MD) - Marijuana Smoke

It's been a while since anyone released a straight up weed inspired hip hop banger but that void has now been filled! Full on dramatic production from 'Sterlin Sound' with a great sample on the hook from the greatest rapper of all time!

Audio: Matter - Hands to the sky feat. Sage [+ free album download link]

The homie Hypeman Sage drops some critical wisdom about making it in the music scene alongside Leeds underground hip hop MC and producer Matter. Sick digital glitchy beat (what some people call '8 bit') with some dubstep influence peeping thru also. An interesting approach to the message behind the track - sending shots at N Dubz while doing so! Download Matter's new free album off his Bandcamp here

Audio: Plies - Just (The Tip) ft. Jeremih & Ludacris

Something on a smoother vibe here, as Plies drops the 1st single off his upcoming album "Purple Hearts". A lot of people don't appreciate Plies' style of rapping but in reality he's one of the more overlooked artists in the South, perhaps down his strong dirty south drawl. He's joined by Luda who's due to make his comeback to the scene, after taking some time out and Jeremih supplies a a whispy hook to follow suite.

Video: Sneakbo - I'm A Boss [Meek Mill cover]

OK, this video's a few months old but it's the first I've seen of it, and as expected, South London's Sneakbo brutalises this tune and does the track full justice. He reminds me of an early Ice Cube and has a similar mentality when it comes to the delivery and relentless lyrics. Interesting how the producer's cut in snippets from the original track too.

Quite possibly D'explicit's best production since the iconic 'Pow!' (which was recently named in the top 10 songs that changed history!) that Lethal B et al vocalled back in 2004. The larger than life South London MC exhibits his eccentricity and shows his ability to inject that insane level of hype and energy in his own unique way. Glad to see this got a video - GASSED!

20 September 2011

Arguably the single most successful act to emerge from the post millennium UK Hip Hop scene are playing a one off show in Camden Town on Nov 3. Over the years they've adapted to their sound and looked beyond  solely the UK scene to cater their sound to and have worked with the best in the dubstep and electro scenes, carrying with them the hip hop and grime vocal sound...

Cop the incredible 'Beggatron Remixed' album which featured the likes of Plastician, Bar9, Noisia and more. The Beatport chart topping Scatta with Skrillex, the anthem that is Lines In Wax with Flux Pavilion and the recent team up with Vato Gonzalez Badman Riddim out on Ministry Of Sound is finally seeing the group crossover into the mainstream, receiving heavyweight radio support and reaching no.6 in the official UK charts.

From his last video in Las Vegas, to this, which was largely shot in New Ross where Maverick grew up, this is his new video which is released for sale on 6th November 2011 on iTunes. Personally I think it's a lot better than his last one, and it's great to see his sound developing.

17 September 2011

Video: J. Cole - Can't Get Enough feat. Trey Songz

All around big track and video here, with a dope sample that sounds something straight out of Buena Vista Social Club!

This is more of a melancholic one from the West London rapper and radio host, and has a strong beat, with the emosh hook and cool video. 'Let It Rain' is the 2nd single from 'Firts Featuring' which is available for FREE.

Video: Sikh Unit - Chill Out On My Own

Sikh rap finds it's place within the UK scene, tho you'll have to be patient with his form on the mic but there's definitely content there!! It's the [social] context of this track and artist that makes the video worth a watch, as we're supplied with a generous portion of Sikh religious imagery, tied in closely with a gang related mentality (even more so when you visit his website), exposing that he's been a victim of a knife wound, as is ready to reciprocate..

The last of a dying breed" is mixtape available for free download from

This, his most recent video is a slightly more easy to follow track but the real content is pretty sparse.

Video: DefDFires - The Palace

Some time ago, the north London hip hop group, who've been around over 10 years locked themselves away to record their much-hyped follow up to 2007's “A Prelude”. It's clear on this track that The DefDFires are gunning at the monarchy, and have some truths that need to be exposed.

Download "The Palace" here.

Audio: Stylah - Paranormal Activity Remix

The ex Poisonous Poet drops this lyrically hefty remix of Krept's tune of the same name, taken from Stylah's new mixtape 'Crash Course 2'. The South London MC, who used to be in the crew with Lowkey, Doc Brown, Reveal and others goes in here and brings intensity and lyrical dope content.

Video: Chozen - Now Your Life Begins ft. Filly

Interview: Sak Pase [producer for Kanye, Jay-Z, Rhianna]

Sak Pase is one half of the production team The JuggaNauts, who produced Rihannas global smash hit Man Down. His dreams came to reality when he learned that Jay-Z & Kanye West wanted to use not one, but two of his tracks for arguably this years biggest album, Watch The Throne. The two tracks were 'Who Gon' Stop Me' & 'Made In America'. Our contributor Toby Kay had the pleasure of putting some questions to Sak'...

Firstly, how have things been lately, what’s good with you?
I’ve been wonderful lately…I can’t complain much about anything. Just got back from LA collaborating with the producer Boi1da on some music and was also working at Atlantic Records for the new T.I album as well as ideas for Tank, and B.O.B…

Was there a moment when you knew that you were beginning to make this all actually happen?
I still don’t think any of it has hit me yet…I think our careers have taking a huge leap over the course of a year. But our first duties as album producers came in 2006 when we wrote or produced I think 13 out of the 17 songs on the Aksent Album (International). That was pretty big for us back then but I think God has given me a glimpse of the things I will accomplish so there is a lot of work left.

How did you feel when you learned you got two tracks on Watch The Throne, and how did it come about?
How would any kid growing up listening to Jay Z or Kanye West feel to hear that news. BLESSED, to say the least. Like I said I still don’t think its hit me yet. I’m such a fan of music. I really really LOVE music. And I’m excited to hear this piece of music that they put together. It’s cohesive. It’s a classic piece of art. So to be a part of that is incredible. I think im gonna wake up one day and say "Wait a minute…My name is on the credits of an album that Kanye West and Jay Z did…!"

The track ‘Who Gon’ Stop Me’ has a British dubstep influence. Is that something that is starting to take off in the States? And, what is it about the sound that you’re drawn to?
There is definitely a dubstep undertone to the record. I think dubstep is going to take off at some point in the states. For me dubstep is so fresh. The energy in dubstep is so intense at times. You get these moments where you don’t know what’s going to happen, there’s so much personality in the dubstep style when done right.

Half way through the track, the beat switches, was that part of the original plan, or was it developed whilst laying the track down?
Well there were many great minds involved with the song. Kanye is always in search of transcendence. Perfection can be achieved in Kanye’s world I think that’s why he is one the greats early into his career. But I can’t tell you if that was part of the original plan or not. I think it just happened. I think there was a moment where he wanted to intensify the listeners experience with that change. Up until the release of the record I never heard the song in its entirety.

‘Made In America’ is the other track you have on the album that has been getting a lot of praise. Can you tell us a little about that track?
The track is very simple. I actually wanted to add more but Kanye felt that the mood had been achieved. It’s not very complex. Just intimate. It’s amazing what words can do to a piece of music, and I felt they turned a piece of music into a soundtrack of celebration. It’s a celebratory piece written in retrospect.

Off the back of the work done with Rihanna, has that opened even more doors? And, any future work that you can tell us about?
Diggy Simmons, K’naan, did some music with Estelle, alongside Jerry Wonda (Fugees). Working on records for T.I , No Doubt, Tanya Lacey and a bunch of names that I cant seem to remember right now.

You have produced for British act Alesha Dixon, firstly how was that, and what other British Acts would you like to work with?
It was amazing working with Alesha. Her voice is one of the most memorable tones I’ve heard. She has a classic rock voice that I think could be massive if she did the right album to compliment that. I told her that she sounds like a female Rod Stewart and she should really explore making music in that direction. I hope no one takes that idea and runs with it.
I’ve worked with British Acts Parade. These girls are SUPERSTARS. If the label gets it right they can be as huge as the spice girls. THEY HAVE HIT RECORDS. Believe me I’ve done 4 or 5 records that can be HUGE…Also Loick Essien, who’s an incredible male vocalist. He is such great talent and just an awesome person overall. I have also worked with Tanya Lacey who is just an incredible talent.

As someone on the “inside”, how do you see the popular music world heading in the near future?
I think with the success of Adele, and great albums such as 'Watch the Throne' popular music is headed in the right direction. I think the need for great music and great albums has arrived - it's going to force the labels to be more about the music and less about the business. In the end it works out for the better. If you put out incredible music.

Video: Shyne performs "Solar Energy"

Shyne performs his new song "Solar Energy" at Kibbutz Ketura on June 5, 2011 at the inauguration of Israel's first solar field.
Bizarre but refreshing to see and hear how Shyne takes to the stage, clearly a changed man after his recent jail time. Whilst locked up, he recognized his Jewish roots and appears to be continuing the observance. On this live band supported hip hop track he brings a conspicuous ethical message, promoting solar power! A fresh take to pushing the potential of music, which is all good, but I'll never forget his more reckless lyrics in his self-titled debut album...!

The guy's dropped another bomb on the industry by making this massive claim. Remember, innocent UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY... But did you ever see that episode of the Simpsons where Krusty gives away free burgers for every US medal in the Olympics?! is the mystery product he's promoting..

Video: D Double E - Lyrical Farda

One of the sickest tracks off his new EP! Look out for all the old skool footage, from raves and street freestyles. Can't go wrong with this one, as D Double proves his worth in the scene.

Audio: Evidence -- You (Prod. by DJ Premier)

The Dilated Person (?) drops a solo joint with the legend DJ Premier. This is phat.

Pusha T interview - what do YOU want to ask?

We're interviewing Def Jam's newest signing later on this month, ahead of his show in London on September 24th. We want some ideas and input from our readers! If you could ask Pusha T ANYTHING, what would it be? The most interesting and creative questions WILL be asked in the interview - so get submitting!

Pusha T entered hip hop in 2001 as part of a duo with his older brother Malice. But over the past year, the Clipse member has been stepping out on his own as an individual artist linked to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music label. Following in that trajectory, Pusha has recently announced his first solo deal with Def Jam.

“Solidifying my first solo venture, G.O.O.D Music/Def Jam is my home. That machine with my creativity is gonna make for satisfied hip hop fans,” Pusha said in a statement on Twitter.

I'm not necessarily in agreement with all the things said in this track, however considering Lowkey's got one half of Dead Prez and Black the Ripper on the track, it's gotta be showcased. Getting right wing politician Glenn Beck to talk about his lyrics live on air is some priceless publicity!

Video: Meek Mill Feat. Rick Ross - Ima Boss

One of my favourite tracks of the year gets brought to life with this video featuring a crazy verse from Rick Ross ("Got so many shades they thought I had a lazy eye").

Meek Mill has been welcomed into the hip hop scene with open arms in 2011 coming up thru Ross' Maybach Music Group. Check his recent mixtape 'Dream Chasers' here, definitely worth the download!

Audio: SomeWhere Else - Hypocrite

Los Angeles hip-hop group SomeWhere Else drop this laid back joint combining live instruments with hard hitting hip hop production.. Hypocrite by SomeWhere Else

Video: Talib Kweli On V-Nasty Using The "N" Word

A couple of weeks ago, a track from this new white chick called V-Nasty dropped and it basically consisted of Kreayshawn style rapping, except she dropped the 'N bomb' repeatedly and unnecessarily, I guess to add a bit of 'shock value' to the track in order to disguise the track's mediocrity!! Talib drops some wisdom on the situation and breaks it down in a balanced way.

Video: Supar Novar - Done It All Before

One thing that I rate about Novar is the fact he's stayed true to his own sound ever since I first heard him in 2001, as a member of the legendary UKHH crew 'Mud Family' which included Skinnyman, Taskforce, Mr Ti2bs and others. In this new vid of his, you'll catch some vintage clips of this and although the video doesn't do the track the best justice the bars are on point..

Cop his new album on itunes here, all tracks were produced, written, mixed & mastered by Supar Novar himself! Also don't forget to download Supar Novar's mixtape 'Man On Fire' for FREE here...

Video: RAMAR - Oh S#!T ft. WINDERZ

The young South London MC drops some hard bars over a dubsteppy banger from Sammy Dubs.

Video: Frisco - Shutdown ft. Wizzy Wow

The Boy Better Know MC joins forces with a previous producer of Wretch 32 for this grime and dirty south sounding banger. I'm feeling what they've done with the video also, this could do well with the right promo I think..

Audio/download: Chima Anya - B/B/-R

"They want me on that BBM, but bro I'm on that BBR" is the hook on this one from Chima, who supported Dead Prez recently in Camden Town, London. Listen to the track to hear what 'BBR' stands for -  For those of you unaware, BBM is a popular form of mobile instant messaging, Blackberry Messenger, and was largely accountable for the  organization of the London riots recently.
The Oxford originating MC spits over this real glitchy beat from Juno Akasawa..

Take a peek at the interview I did with Chima a little while back, amongst a host of commuters and flute players!
