Video: What's your sneaker thing??

We all know how well Hip hop and trainers go hand in hand... there are only two problems to making this marriage happen... which of the many brands and designs to choose from, and where to buy them! I'm not an online purchaser when it comes to trainers cos I NEED to try them on before I buy!! Sometimes I look like this when I slip em on... sometimes I don't! via Footlocker! [sponsored post]

Video:Lady Leshurr - LEGO

Even tho she's been around for a few years, here's the debut single from arguably the best female MC in the UK right now! I rate her very highly based on the fact she's got a great presence on the mic, can sing, and isn't afraid to try something different. The Guardian agrees too!

Video: Miski ft P Money - On My Throne

Miski is a female singer and MC that you're bound to be hearing a lot more about in the future. She's just dropped this video featuring P Money - created by the good folk at Nik Squared.

Audio: Nelly ft. T.I. & 2 Chainz - Country Ass Nigga

The fact that two of some of the best in the south right now are on this track made it one I couldn't ignore, despite Nelly's presence which wouldn't be a name you'd normally see on this site!!

The St Louis rapper/singer does his thing, tho hasn't been around for a while so let's see what happens.
It looks like the south is having it's comeback season at the moment, as if it went anywhere! TI's return from jail is coming into full effect.

Produced by the legendary Drumma Boy.

Play: Nelly ft. T.I. & 2 Chainz - Country Ass Nigga

Video: INC + Hypeman Sage - Very Peak (Prod. Madman Speakz)

Sick new video here on a grime and dubstep flex, with a few screws loose. Sage, who recently featured on Rob Da Bank's bbc radio 1 show joins ex Jumpoff champion INC .. digusting bars over a hard dubstep/grime cross over beat. Flake Mignon is the movement!

Audio/download: DJ Whiteowl Drop That 184 [mixtape]

One of the best mixtapes I've heard in a loooong time here, as White Owl continues his marathon length series of 'drop that'. All freshly cooked street hits mainly out of NYC but the rest of the US also - covering mainstream, underground and obscure rappers alike. Highlights on this include new ones from Immortal Technique, Vado, Jadakiss, Saigon and more...

Audio/download: Yung Joc feat. 2 Chainz & Ebony love - SO GOOD

Two quintessentially igna'nt dirty south MCs join forces here on a dope track built both for the streets and the strip club... listen out for the section of the chorus that sounds just like The Isley Brothers' legendary classic 'Summer Breeze'!

Two Chainz is an Atlanta rapper that has, like Pusha T, raised his status as a solo artist, going solo from his pairing as one half of Playaz Circle (you may remember one of their hits 'Duffle Bag Boyz' with Lil Wayne) and is steadily rising..
He's also made a fairly wise move by changing his name from Tity Boi.. who knows, it may have just been to potentially be stocked by Wal Mart...

Play: Yung Joc feat. 2 Chainz & Ebony love - SO GOOD

Video: TR Fernandez - Respect My Aura (R.M.A)

In 'Respect My Aura' TR Fernandez doesn't hold back with his gritty lyrics over a smooth punchy beat by U.S Producer Jehf Slaps. Reminding us that life isn't handed to you and it's the hard work that makes anything possible. However.... people will still talk.

Video: Labrinth previews behind the scenes of 'Earthquake' video

Earthquake by North London's super producer Labrinth is undoubtedly one of my favourite cross over tracks of the year - and is his biggest hit since he came in the game back in 2009 with Tinie on 'Pass Out'. With all the budget that Simon Cowell's 'Syco' label has, you know this video was bound to be huuuuuge!

Underground grime producer Mr Mitch is launching a new site http://beatfighter.co.uk which will see producers going head to head in a battle of the beats. It will be a monthly battle with two producers putting up a beat each and the public votes for the winner and at the end of each month the winning beat will go up for sale, so the public can get hold of it straight away.

The website will be launching on the 1st of November with Darq E Freaker (Tempa T - Next Hype) and Spooky (Spartan) going up against each other.. this going to be a guaranteed madness as these are two of some of the most exciting producers in grime right now!

Led by the merciless BIG OWL (FLIPTRIX), guided by the teachings of BIRD T (VERB T), entertained by the do-or-die spirit of RUSTY TAKE-OFF (BVA MC) & inspired by the inventions of DEFORMED WING (LEAF DOG), The Owls are representing High Focus records as what many would call a 'supergroup'. Check out this track of theirs, produced by Leaf Dog.

Pulling their acting socks up, certified grime MCs Ashley Walters (formerly Asher D), Kane Robinson (Kano) and Scorcher star in Channel 4’s upcoming four-part drama Top Boy alongside Kierston Wareing (It’s A Free World) and Geoff Bell.

The drama is set to be on your screens this 31st October exploring young lives lived on the edge as Dushane (Ashley Walters) gets the attention of ex-convict and drug dealer Bobby Raikes (Geoff Bell) and uses his charming ways as an opportunity to become more than just a gang leader, but a top boy in the Summerhouse Estate. Looks big!!!

Video: UK BET Hip Hop Awards Cyphers 2011

This is the type of thing that shouldn't be left to the likes of BET to do, but massive respect to them for shining some light on the scene. The line up is definitely varied and inclusive of the different factions within the UK. Of course, you can't please ALL the people ALL the time, so there are bound to be criticisms but I wouldn't say any of them don't deserve to be there. Full line up is:

Wretch 32, Ghetts, Chipmunk, Smiler, G FrSH, Bigz, Mic Righteous, Mz Bratt, Roxxxan, Lady Leshurr and Akala with DJ Manny Norte spinning the records.

What more can be said except, this guy IS hip hop! And his 84 year old homie is dripping in SWAG-juice!

Video: Skepta, Krept & Konan - Tour Bus Massacre

Good to hear Skepta back on his street s#!t, and also bringing a different flow which has always been one of his biggest assets... Krept and Konan go in also, and altho I've not heard much from them - they're definitely rising up the UK scene rapidly. Big up to Despa Cam on the visuals.

Video: Cyclonius - Get Them Hands High [ + mixtape download]

Cyclonious is back and harder than ever with his latest track 'Get them hands High', bringing a lyrically organic 'boom bap' style sound to this feel good banger, which is definitely more 'UK Hip Hop' than 'Road Rap'...

Audio: DJ Premier Said No To Justin Bieber Wanting To Be On The BET Cyphers [+ best cypher videos]

"Don’t get it wrong, DJ Premier doesn’t have anything against Justin Bieber. The story goes like this, Justin Bieber asked if he could join the BET Cyphers ’11 which was cool for Premo and the staff. DJ Premier doesn’t care who joins the cyphers as long as you can spit dope verses everybody is allowed. But then Justin Bieber wanted Ludacris to write his rhymes and that wasn’t allowed by DJ Premier. Thanks to DJ Premier the BET Cyphers are still spitting ryhmes on dope breaks like they used to do it on the streets… Word!"

Video: Labrinth - Earthquake ft. Tinie Tempah (+ sick remix)

Whether it's commercial or underground music you're into, this covers both - yet again a great cross over collab by this duo and a strong video to do it justice. Rated Lab's shoutout to his boss, Simon Cowell, who's label SyCo he's signed to!

Got sent this great remix via email from a producer called Suki Bedeaux

Interview: Berner [U.S. rapper/serial enterpreneur, worked with Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa etc]

Berner's a California based rapper who's been causing a storm recently with his recent hit 'Yoko Ono', which features three huge names in hip hop right now - Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown and Big K.R.I.T (which were featured on the latter two's respective mixtapes). Toby Kay caught up with him exclusively for Blatantly Blunt.

Firstly, what’s good with you today?
I’m smoked out and enjoying this San Francisco weather today, what’s up with you man?

Yea doing good thanks! For those that aren't yet aware, who is Berner and how did he get into the game?

You know what? I actually learned how to rap while living in Arizona. This kid named Wicked Wizard approached me in continuation school asking me if I could rap because he was trying to sell me some bull shit karaoke type machine and he challenged me to rap.

At first I didn't really know what I was doing. So I said my rap and he said “yeah you can do it, you’re good.” I bought the machine and that was pretty much where my rap career began on the playground. I still have the microphone stand that came with it to this day. Wow you brought back memories.

The single “Yoko” has been clocking up the views, it’s doing well only after a few weeks! Could you tell us how that track came about? There are some huge names on that record!

I first hooked up with Big K.R.I.T. and got the beat from him, the beat was crazy and I knew with the right artist on the track this song was going to be a hit. I’ve known Wiz Khalifa and been friends with him for a few years and I knew it would be a great record to get him on because it sounded different than any track he’s ever been on.

How I met Chris Brown was completely on some being at the right place at the right time type of thing I ran into Chris at the Record Plant in LA. I knew it would be historic if I got him on the record so I just made it happen. Four artist, with four different fan bases, it’s a movie.

Berner feat. Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa & Big K.R.I.T. - Yoko Ono

Now the single is doing its thing, how are you planning on following it up, what you got planned?

Same way I always have… just continuing to release quality product. I’m working on the follow up track as we speak. We are also launching our Cookies Clothing Company and other things to branch off the success of the record.

Where do you see yourself in the crowded 2011 hip hop scene and what are you bringing to the table?

Umm…well, I looking further down the line like 2013. By then I plan to be where Diddy and Jay-Z are in the business sense, because I have more that the rap game going for me. I’m an entrepreneur in the sense that I have several things going on. I currently have the 'Stoner Girls Gone Wild' [ed: If your boss/parents etc ain't about, check that video out here!! *VERY NSFW*], 'Cookies Clothing Line' and 'Packs' the motion picture, my 'Up in Smoke' DVD series, and a rack of other things going on.
Music is just a stepping stone to open up doors to everything else I’m doing.

What producers can we look forward to hearing you working with?

I’ve been working with my in house producer Cosmo for years now and that’s never going stop. I don’t know about other producers just yet. Any producers wanting to work with me get at me.

Any last words you want to put out there?

Weed unites people…sex sells, and there’s a lot of bullshit coming out these days. All I want to do is put out good quality music whether it’s through me as the artist or being the A&R for other artist on my label. Just good production, good packaging and over all good music.

Check out Berner online!!

Review: Black XS - Be A Rockstar!

Since way back in 2005, Black XS has been feeding the world with great musical content and experiences. Paco Rabanne have linked up with one of the industry’s big boys Universal Music to offer you die hard music fans a brand new musical platform - www.be-a-rockstar.com.

The Be A Rockstar site is totally unique in that it offers users not just exclusive musical content but also the opportunity to experience their life long dreams! Universal Music are doing what they do best - providing the sound track, allowing Paco Robanne’s Black XS line to open the doors to the largest catalogue of artists in the world!
Black XS fragrances are sponsoring this series, providing you with a unique chance so many have always dreamt of, which is of course to 'go backstage' and experience first-hand the more intimate live moments with some of the best bands out there! These include the Cold War Kids, Two Door Cinema Club, and Kaiser Chiefs.

Feeling this collaborative project between the veteran UK hip hop MC and the producer who's been making some great beats since he entered the game not too long ago. Some different content so don't ignore the lyrics! Personally I don't think the first track is the strongest of the 5 tunes, so give it a chance!

He also shows off his new found love for skating, and why he chose to take it up - after watching a 12 year old skater called Alex Midler! This video's mad inspirational!

Vybz Kartel Charge With Murder + Cop Speaks On Charges

Arguably the most succesful Jamaican dancehall artist of recent years, Vybz Kartel has been charged with murder in the death of a 27-year old business man...
Adidja Palmer was charged Monday (October 3) with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm.

"The allegation is that on Monday, July 11, 2011, Palmer, along with other men, conspired to murder Barrington Burton o/c 'Bossie', a 27-year-old businessman/promoter of a Gregory Park address in St Catherine. Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park" The Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT)

Audio: D Double E feat. P Money, Professor Green & Snoop Dogg – Be Like Me (Remix) [prod. by True Tiger]

If my last post, regarding dubstep and hip hop combining didn't prove the point about the UK's dominance, this certainly will.
Two of the biggest veterans/legends/senseis in their respective scenes [west coast hip hop/east london grime] jump on the True Tiger produced track off D Double's recent EP.
P Money and Pro Green  provide some really strong verses also, with each proving their dominance as more recent successes than Snoop and D Double .
However hats off to whoever made this collaboration happen, it's iconic - in the least corny way possible.

Audio: Boogz Boogetz ft. Prodigy - Supreme Flow [vocal of Skream - 'Filth']

Another monumental step towards UK music taking over the world, as the legend Prodigy, of Mobb Deep joins fellow New Yorker Boogz Boogetz in vocalling dubstep producer Skream's classic track 'Filth'. You maybe thinking, wait - "this isn't the first time a US rapper's jumped on dubstep!"

The significance here is that they're East Coast rappers, whereas the majority of dubstep beats have been vocalled by West Coasters (Eve, Snoop, Xzibit, Kreayshawn etc). Small error on their half is that they've used Skream's Twitter name on the artwork!
