Apologies for the delayed post but whilst travelling in SE Asia, last night I found out about the sad passing of West Coast hip hop crooner Nate Dogg, who died on March 15, in Long Beach, California from complications related to previous strokes he had suffered.
With 4 Grammy nominations, Nate worked with the creme de la creme in the hip hop game; most notably 2Pac, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg as a member of Suge Knight's Death Row Records, during the West's golden era of the 1990s. He also was instrumental in the short lived spell of G Funk, alongside Warren G.
Not just regarded as the essential go to guy for a hook, Nate Hale also released a number of solo albums, with 'Music & Me' staying on heavy rotation for me in the early 2000s! Another legend gone, but he paved the way for the likes of Akon and T-Pain in providing the ultimate hip hop chorus. With classics like Oh No with Pharoahe Monche and Mos Def, The Next Episode with Dre and Snoop, 21 Questions with 50 cent and countless more his music will be sure to live on!
