London, Manchester and Brighton play host on the 3rd, 4th & 5th February 2012 to a night in tribute to the life & work of a true Hip-Hop genius, with Ma Dukes, Phat Kat & loads more, with proceeds going to charity.

Feeling this track from the fast emerging big new name in the 2012 hip hop world. Grime fans might recognize one of the sounds used on Silencer (now known as Teddy's) classic 'World War 4'. The FBI recently released its file on deceased rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard. The Wu-Tang Clan rapper passed away in 2004 from a drug overdose, but according to the federal government’s 93-page file, throughout his career, he was “heavily involved” in “murder, car-jackings, and the sale of drugs and illegal guns”.

The document also takes aim at Wu-Tang Clan itself, describing the rap collective as an organized group that accepted members and gave them “record contracts to record rap type music”. But it insinuates that the group used their connections with record companies as a way to launder money obtained from their illegal dealings.

“Numerous recording companies were incorporated along with bank accounts established. This allows legitimate monies to flow into these accounts along with the proceeds from [redacted],” reads the file.

Referring to several crimes including multiple murders in Staten Island, the document also says that the New York City borough’s local authorities at one point even sought out help from the federal government to look into the group.

“The detectives are seeking the assistance of the FBI and US Attorney’s Office to further their case along as to package the numerous crimes committed by the WTC Organization in the form of federal charges and a RICO prosecution,” reads the document.

A federal judge ruled earlier this month that a lawsuit brought against Jay-Z by an Egyptian man over his hit single Big Pimpin’ needs to go to trial to settle certain issues.

Osama Ahmed Fahmy initially filed the copyright infringement complaint against the music mogul back in 2007 claiming that Big Pimpin’ sampled his uncle’s song Khosara, Khosara, to which he, his uncle, and three of his siblings, hold the copyright. But earlier this year, Jay-Z filed a successful motion to have the Copyright Act’s statute of limitations limit the amount of potential damages because Fahmy knew about the infringement prior to 2000, but waited to file. The ruling means that Fahmy can only recoup infringements that occurred after August 31, 2004, three years before he filed the suit.

They will head back to court to ascertain whether or not Jay’s actually directly profited from use of Big Pimpin’ during live performances.

“There is no record evidence that Jay-Z used Big Pimpin’ in his advertisements for a particular concert or concert series, or that Big Pimpin’ was performed at every concert,” wrote US District Judge Christina Snyder in her December 9th ruling.

“It is a question of fact whether Jay-Z’s concert revenues should be considered direct or indirect…it is up to a jury to decide,” she added. “Accordingly, the court finds that there is a triable issue whether Jay-Z’s concert revenues constitute direct profits from his infringing live performances Big Pimpin’ for purposes of the Copyright Act.”
